Mukuru Festival is an initiative of Mukuru Youth Initiative, the Festival seeks to unite all artists, sports personalities, groups and organization with the community in showcasing different ways they make a change.
The 2015 Mukuru Festival was one of the best event we have done so far, we were impressed to see the community embracing an initiative that is founded by their young people.
The event was able to bring the young and the old, and incorporating all kinds of arts, sports and exhibitions.
We would like to give special thanks to everyone who made the event a success, from the community members, sponsors, the leaders and everyone who played a part including, artist, exhibiting groups and organization.
Mukuru is growing and the people are growing too, this will make the initiatives we are initiating in Mukuru become even bigger.
In 2014 event Purity performed and she caught someone’s attention who decided to support her music video shoot. In 2015 purity performed and also exhibited her now out music video CD.
Ever since purity have outgrown herself and currently she has her music being played on radio and tv stations, she has also attended interviews on radio, tv and articles about her music journey published on different magazines and newspaper.
We met Hillary through social media where he was posting photos of his visual art works; we were amazed at how he could draw by hand. We decide to give Hillary a platform to come and exhibit his work. The National Museum representative got impressed by what Hillary was doing and they decide to help market his work at the National Museum of Kenya. The areas MP also decided to pay for his education since Hillary had dropped out of high school due to lack of school fees.
We were able to bring the area member of parliament Hon.Irshad Sumra and Kwa Reuben MCA Mr.Omauti. The MP donated carts (Mikokoteni) to 5 youth groups to use for garbage collection within the community. Its not easy to have political leaders attend activities organised by youths themselves, hence this is a clear indication of how important Mukuru Awards/Mukuru Festival is important to the community.
