Mukuru Awards is an initiative founded by Mukuru Youths in 2013, in which it’s an awarding event meant to award individuals, groups, teams, schools and organization that have worked hard to improve the standard of the community through their arts, talents and initiatives in the year. The initiative in 2014 was implement with the theme of Peace hence the slogan ‘One People, One Nation, One Kenya’ as indicated on all event signage.
Mukuru Awards also facilitated the crowning of Mr and Miss Mukuru who are meant to be ambassadors of Mukuru youths issues in different platforms.
The event, overall, was a complete success. The event had a great crowd of people from all over the community with an estimated crowed of around 2200 in attendance.
Nominees were very skeptical about the Awards and everyone wanted to win although they knew only one nominee per category was capable of taking the award home. All the nominees accepted the verdict provided from the sms through (0737554854 and 0705644138 ) and online on http://youthedition.net/vote sent from their supporters and some were even surprised to have won the Award.
Each group was able to do a final evaluation on what they did. The group in charge of posters, banners, online Ads, Tags and Online marketing did a really good job designed all items and getting them printed.
During the event, a young girl named Purity performed and one of our got inspired by her talent and courage. The guest arranged for Purity only 7 years old to perform the following Monday at KICC to an event that President Uhuru Kenyatta was expected to Attend.
Despite the president absence at the event, Purity who was accompanied by the father performed and she was paid Kes.20, 000 this only shows the impact of Mukuru Awards to the community and the change that it can bring if fully supported.
The event Director Nelson Munyiri, Dennis – winner of most inspirational Artist and Princes Purity the youngest performer during the event were interviewed by a citizen Radio reporter after the event, the interview was played on Inooro FM, Citizen Radio and other Royal Media stations.
The Deejay and the performances were entertaining, and the Mars ground looked incredible. As a committee we all worked really hard to make the event come together.
