In February 2019, Mukuru Youth Initiative (MuYI) embarked on a transformative journey by unveiling the MuYI HUB in Mukuru kwa Reuben, Nairobi. This innovative concept is not just a physical space; it’s a beacon of hope for the youth in Mukuru, aiming to empower them with the resources and support needed to be creative, resilient, and innovative.

History : MuYI HUB emerged as a response to the pressing needs of the community. Recognizing the immense potential within Mukuru’s youth, MuYI envisioned a hub that goes beyond the conventional. Our objective is clear: to provide a nurturing environment that fosters creativity, resilience, and innovation among the young minds of Mukuru.

Empowering Objectives: MuYI HUB is driven by two primary objectives:

Resource Empowerment: To empower young people by providing them with the necessary resources, including educational opportunities, mentorship, access to technology, and collaborative spaces.
Skill Development for Positive Change: To help young people develop the skills, knowledge, and mindset necessary for success in their chosen fields and to drive positive change in their communities.

Action Points: MuYI HUB executes its objectives through a series of action points:

Educational workshops covering coding, design, and entrepreneurship.
Mentorship programs connecting young minds with experienced professionals.
Access to technology, including 3D printers, fabrication tools, and software.
Collaborative projects and competitions encouraging teamwork and idea generation.
Networking events facilitating connections with other young people and professionals.

MuYI HUB Weekly Activities:

Coffee Bar Tuesday: Weekly gathering for coffee, conversations, and community building.
Movies/Documentary Thursday:Evening screenings addressing social, cultural, and environmental issues.
Board Games Thursday:Friendly competition with a variety of board games for all ages.
Artist Friday:Celebration of creativity with live art exhibitions, music, and poetry.
Dance Space:Dedicated area for dance training, workshops, performances, and mentorship.
Audio Recording Studio / Video Recording Studio:Equipped spaces for music recording, video production, classes, and mentorship.

Future Vision for MuYI HUB Premises:

Addition of new spaces and activities.
Restroom and changing areas for local football teams using Reuben grounds.
Recreational hall for community meetings and art rehearsals.
Expanded Music Recording Studio and Video Shooting Studios.
Rental studio spaces for visual artists.
Rental spaces for other organizations.
MuYI Offices for administrative functions.
Rooftop recreational spaces for events, weekly art, and networking activities.
